Planning Tips
📆 Best Time To Visit
We visited Banff and Jasper in late August/early September to avoid the crowds while still having pleasant temperatures. Visiting in spring means that trails at higher elevation could still have snow, and visiting in the most popular months of June/July means higher lodging pricing and crowded trails.
💰 Average Daily Budget
Our average daily budget per couple was $122/day in 2022. This included our lodging in oTENTiks (shared with another couple), car rental, meals, and excursions
🍽️ Must-Try Foods
Don't miss out on Alberta's iconic dishes like poutine (french fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds) and BeaverTails (fried dough pastries topped with sweet toppings), along with local specialties like Alberta beef, saskatoon berry pie, and maple-infused dishes.
🍻 Local Drinks
Alberta's craft beer scene features popular breweries like Big Rock Brewing and Grizzly Paw Brewing Company, while the province is also known for its locally-produced spirits, craft ciders, and unique Caesar cocktail - a Canadian twist on the Bloody Mary made with clamato juice.
📸 Must-See Views
Don't miss Alberta's stunning natural wonders including the turquoise waters of Peyto Lake and Lake Louise, along with a scenic drive through the majestic Icefields Parkway, where you can witness breathtaking mountain vistas, glaciers, and wildlife.
